What is Art? The definition of Art

Art, also called Visual Art, a purposeful expression of skill or creativity that results in a visual experience. There is no universally accepted definition of art, and its perception has changed considerably throughout history and between civilizations.

Art Traditions

Many great art traditions have their roots in the art of one of the great ancient civilizations, including Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, India, China, Ancient Greece, Rome, and Inca, Maya, and Olmec. Each of these locations of early civilization evolved an own artistic style.

Because of the scale and length of these civilizations, more of their artifacts have survived, and their influence has spread to other cultures and subsequent eras. Some have also supplied the first documentation of how artists worked.

We find it difficult to describe and outline art because what it represents and provokes is in part ineffable. It is known via the audience's experience as well as the artist's aim and presentation. Because the meaning is created by all of the participants, it can never be fully understood. It is diverse and ongoing. Even a dispute is a form of tension that expresses something.
